I lately took both of my shih tzus for their distemper/parvo shot. George weighs in at nineteen and a half pounds and Eve and sixteen and half lbs. What amazes me is that they get so energized going to meet their vet, they care for everyone fawning all over them. Eve insisted on going in first by evoking such a fuss, George followed with his tail between his legs.
George was the first in and barked on his way out after the veteran took a look at him, he was the happiest dog in the world. At this point, Eve began to throw up until all ingredients were out of her stomach. Our shih tzu laid down and wouldn't move. We lookes there to see if she would stand up and be alright. Eve was in a horrible condition and didnt know what to do, it was like looking at an elephant being shot and losing control of its legs slowly but surely.
The vet quickly replied with a steroid injections for our shitzu. We waited with baited breath over the course of the next 10 minutes to observe what effect this steroid would have on her. Her breathing became very difficult, and she appeared even less responsive. We hurried her to a specialty hospital where she was admitted in critical state There was only so much John could do so we brought her to a special hospital for pets. That afternoon and night was touch and go.
The hospital put her on a drip that night. I dont think the lovely people in the hospital thought our shih tzu dog would succeed but we were hopeful that it would all end up for the best. She spent two days in the hospital being pumped with drugs which was a bit disappointing as you could tell she was uncomfortable. What took place was she suffered from anaphylactic shock, if you have ever seen someone eat peanuts and is allergic then you know what I am talking about.Happily the story has a happy ending as Eve is on the road to healing.
Whilst recuperating she appears to spend a lot of time drinking water and drowsing off whilst she recovers each day. There is little doubt in my mind that she will be A ok in a month or two. It is marvelous how much I now know about these injections that are given to dogs, I spend a huge amount of time exploring the on the net.
I have discovered that the shih tsu breed are the no 1 to react to them.I am on a bit of campaign now to make sure people manage to get "full disclosure".This was a nightmare and very costly.I really consider strongly though that people should never have to see what happenned to us.
